According to the report by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News on 15th July 2009, the largest digital publishing platform in Taiwan, Book11, was officially launched. Book11 is Taiwan’s only electronic book service platform combining software and hardware, and is able to download nearly 10,000 books, using originally created automatic pictures and text typesetting technique, enhancing screen legibility and comfort.
Reportedly, “Pick A Digital Cultural Book Limited Liability Company” Chief Executive Qiu Ming, founder of Book11, said that Book11 is now the only Chinese digital knowledge sharing platform in Taiwan, combining software and hardware, and containing nearly 10,000 copies of Chinese and Japanese reading publications of classical literature and historical novel, with the total volume of electronic books estimated to exceed 100,000 by 2010. It will also officially launch its entry into Chinese electronic books market in 2011, creating the largest and the best Chinese Knowledge sharing platform in the world. The originally created “pictures and text automatic typesetting” technique of Book11 can layout 48 page versions instantaneously, improving on the drawback of illegibility on the page of an ordinary electronic book. Other than its content being able to be downloaded to such devices as laptop, PDA, desktop computer and so forth, Book11 also brings in the first reading device that reads traditional and simplified Chinese —— iRead, that can store up to nearly 10,000 copies of novel, and its size and thickness is just like a hard copy novel book, weighing only 388 grams, and is convenient to carry along. Besides, iRead has an 8-inch screen, most advanced 16 gray scale display technique and customized auto “page turning pole”, providing the sense of holding a pen to highlight on the article, as well as making notes and scribbling in the handwritten memorandum, which is close to actual reading habit. Book11 provides free membership, and after registering you can select the books you wish to purchase, make payment and start downloading. In order to celebrate the launch, those who join as members during the trial operation period (July ~ September) can immediately read the free books on the website.
