Chinese Government Officials Do Not Need Blogs

It has been reported that since government officials in central China's Jiangxi Province started their own blogs last year, some of their posts contain no original articles and seldom respond to netizens' questions. Furthermore, some officials have not added any new posts to their blogs for half a year.

A commentary on the Red Net points out that these officials started blogs only to please their superiors, rather than exchange ideas and information with citizens and help them solve their problems.

The commentary notes that it requires much time for officials read netizens' messages and write responses as well as a certain degree of tolerance to read the extreme views of some netizens. Few officials have either, which is why their blogs are nothing more of a formality.

But the commentary goes on to say that if the officials have other channels by which they can learn more about the lives of the citizens they serve to help solve their difficulties, it is not so important for them to always update their blogs.

The commentary concludes by saying that whether these officials and their respective government departments can fulfill their responsibilities is what really matters to the public.
